How to correctly install the armour rod on the ADSS optical cable?

2025-09-16

We all know that when installing all-weather self-supporting (ADSS) optical cables, one of the key components is the armour rod, which provides necessary support and wear-resistant protection at the support points of the optical cable.

First of all, we would like to remind everyone that the selection of the appropriate size and type of armour rod must be in accordance with the specifications of the ADSS cables being used. Moreover, when your staff are installing, they should ensure that the armour rod can closely surround the cables, but not be too tight, as being too tight may create stress points, which could lead to damage to the cables over time.

Before installation, your operators must check if the cables show any signs of wear or damage. Because ensuring that the support points are clean and free of debris will not affect the adhesion of the armour rod and the overall effect.

One more point that must be particularly noted is that your staff must place the armour rod on the designated support points. Because ensuring the armour rods are placed properly can guarantee that they can effectively resist wear and the effects of environmental factors. At the same time, after the installation is completed, gently compress the armour rod around the cables to ensure they maintain uniform pressure and will not cause deformation.

Finally, after the armour rod are fixed, we suggest that your operators take additional protective measures, such as wrapping the support points with protective tape or covers. This additional protective layer not only effectively reduces wear caused by external factors, but also further enhances the durability of the all-media self-supporting optical cable.
